Concentration #12

I've been sick so this is why this final concentration is getting posted a bit late. Its focusing on the morning weather and sunrise. I felt like I needed a very bright piece to counteract some of the darker rain pieces.

Concentration #11

In my last few concentrations I'm trying to portray good weather, to balance out all the rain pieces in my concentration. This picture (which is sideways) is showing good, spring weather.

Concentration #10

In this concentration I tried to convey "snow" one of the aspects of North Carolina weather that I hadn't covered yet. I outlined some of the citra-solv transfers on the left with black sharpie and I thought about outlining the trees on the right but didn't. What do yall think?

Concentration #9

This is my 9th concentration-- depicting good, sunny weather in NC. I citra-solved multiple pictures of my house and the flowers around it and tried to duplicate the brightness of the light and the warmth of the sun.

1 sentance Concentration

My AP Art Concentration is about exploring and emphasizing the different types of weather in central North Carolina.

We all talked in class about my concentration having more to do with weather than with just rain. I'm limiting myself a lot by just saying "rain" so I broadened my concentration to include weather in central NC. I didn't want to have my concentration be as vague as "weather" or even as vague as "weather in NC". I obviously don't want to have to do hurricanes or extreme weather in my contentration.. so I decided to concentrate on only central NC (the weather I'm most farmiliar with)... What do yall think?

Concentration #8

I did four citra solv transfers... two of which are tinted red, the other two are black and white. I drew back into the black and white with colored watercolor pencil. I'm trying to portray a rainbow through the colors being put into the black and white. I'm considering bringing the rainbow colors more into the middle and allowing the outsides to stay black and white.

Concentration #7

"Rain is something...soothing"

I did a citrasolv transfer of a picture I took through the windshield of my car. The picture itself is very blurry and thats why I thought it would be an interesting citra-solv. The shapes of the trees, road and car came out very blotchy and, once again, tinted red. I worked back into the picture with watercolor pencils then water color. Originally I had the road extending through the sky but that looked odd. I think the blotchiness of the clouds and shapes conveys the soothingness of the rain. The shape and curve of the road also helps convey that rain is soothing.

Concentration #2 REDO

"Rain is something... scary"

This is a citra-solv transfer of a picture I took just before a storm. There is a very foreboding cloud right behind the tree. The dark colors of the cloud transfered red-ish and I worked back into it with water color and watercolor pencil. I'm considering two black and white citra solv transfers on the sides to add to the "scary" effect.

Concentration #1 REDO

"Rain is something...Beautiful"

I love the details of the drops on the window and decided not to do a citra-solv. The detail of the individual drops was lost in the transfer so I started over with jut a print out, then went back and added color to some of the drops to make the picture more interesting.

Concentration Statement (revisited)

I have always loved the rain, even when I was young. There's something about listening to it fall on the tin roof of my house or snuggling under a blanket in the living room and just watching it fall. What some people would find annoying about the rain I don't mind. I've never had a car that fishtailed in the rain, I love when the power goes out during a thunderstorm and I don't mind getting soaking wet.  My only complaint about the rain is the gigantic puddles the rain causes in the parking lot of my school and how I can never seem to avoid stepping in them.

You can choose to look at rain in a multitude ways and that's what I'm exploring in my AP Art concentration: The ways rain can be viewed or thought of. Rain can be something: scary, cold, fun, helpful, beautiful, soothing, dangerous, renewing, messy, hopeful, promising or foreboding. Rain, like life, is what you make of it.

Concentration #6

In this concentration I used 2 citra-solv transfers of a picture taken through a car windshield to create a mirror image. I drew back into the concentration with water color pencil, still keeping the blurry, dream-like feel of the original picture.

Concentration #5

In this concentration I did 4 citra-solv transfers to create a new structure with the tree branches. I worked back into the concentration with watercolor pencils to make the colors more bold.

Concentration #4

I added water color pencil to my photo collage of citra-solv transfers. I left some pencils marks but I added water to create the watercolor paint effect. I'll maybe add a self portrait later on.

Concentration #3

In my third concentration piece I used a citra-solv transfer of a photo I took, then worked back on top of it. I used different colors of inks in horizontals and vertical drips to create a background. I then created another citra-solv transfer of my own face, then added my hair with acrylic paint, ink and watercolor pencils.

The yellow ink that drips down the background blends in to help create the hair. Some of the other inks blend into the hair to create different shades and colors.

Concentration #2

This is my second concentration piece that continues my exploration of "rain" in relation to my own personality and experiences. This piece concerned with STORMS. Everyone has "storms" or hardships in their lives that they must overcome. In this piece I have created a photo montage of both photos I took and other storm photos (thanks to google). The photos are different sizes and some are cut up into parts and spread over the composition. On top of the photos I used acrylic inks. I shook a brush loaded with silver ink on top of the concentration to create the drops. I also poured purple, light pink, blue, green and yellow inks onto the concentration and let them drip down while also blowing on them to create different patterns as opposed to just letting them drip. In the future I hope to add self portraits of my profile in the future.. one in the bottom right looking up and one in top left looking down. I hope to use a combination of tissue paper and inks to create my profile.

Concentration #1

1.) I (tried) to use the suggestion to do a citra-solv transfer for the background of my first concentration piece. The transfer didn't work out but I used the photos I had printed off to create a collage.
2.) I tried to create a more engaging design through three things in particular,
-the movement of the color dripping down the photograph
-the contrast of the inks and photograph
-rhythm of the puzzle piece.
3.) I feel like my work demonstrates my idea. I think the concept is clear and the mixed media I used involve many elements and principles of art.
4.) I cut up my photograph into puzzle pieces. It was very stressful knowing I could have ruined the entire piece right then with just wrong snip of the scissors.
5.)The piece represents my life in many ways. For the first time in my life everything is simple and everything is going right. The color dripping down into the black and white represents that. The complicated colors and being simplified into black and white and the puzzle pieces are finally coming together. "Everything Fits".

AP Art Concentration Statement

I am not an average person. I've always thought of myself as free form, unable to be classified under any stereotype or generalization. For example, I go to a private school but I have grown up and live in the country. Another example of the unique aspects of my life is that I prefer rain to the sun, unlike the average person. I've always loved the rain, its so free form and different--like me. To demonstrate my unique personality and lifestyle, I choose to use the rain as the subject of my AP Art concentration. In my concentration I will investigate twelve different ways to view rain- through windows, puddles, droplets on tree branches and car windshields. I will I hope to represent not only the unique diversity of the rain but also my own diversity as an individual in my AP Art concentration.
