Concentration #7

"Rain is something...soothing"

I did a citrasolv transfer of a picture I took through the windshield of my car. The picture itself is very blurry and thats why I thought it would be an interesting citra-solv. The shapes of the trees, road and car came out very blotchy and, once again, tinted red. I worked back into the picture with watercolor pencils then water color. Originally I had the road extending through the sky but that looked odd. I think the blotchiness of the clouds and shapes conveys the soothingness of the rain. The shape and curve of the road also helps convey that rain is soothing.

  1. I love how you twisted/reflected this across the page Marion! It's a great composition, and it definitely does have a soothing feeling to it. The way that the borders of the design sort of fade out in places really works well and adds to the soothing-ness of the piece. I wish that you were in there somewhere though, like in your other pieces, but it looks so great that I wouldn't do anything to change it!

  2. Marion,
I just looked at all of your images so far in a group. I think the complexity of your designs continues to increase as well as the control of the media that you are choosing to use. However, I still am not getting a sense of an investigation of an idea. Perhaps what your concentration really should or ought to be is "12 ways to show rain" or "12 ways to interpret rain through imagery"
I might consider re-doing piece #2 with the hair as I'm not sure it fits in with the stronger design/photos that you have created for the rest of the concentration.
We will critique your work tomorrow in class!

  3. Good work. Overall the design is strong but I think the investigation maybe is lost a bit in this piece. It is the third repetition structure in the concentration and I think I would like to see you push the design structures more. What other structures can you investigate while showing rain?

  4. Marion I really like the colors you chose-they work well together. Also, I like how abstract is it but if you wanted to add anything else you could work on re-drawing some more. But, I really love this piece. You concentration idea is unique and I can't wait to see what else you come up with!

  5. Your color choice in this one is different and I definitely like that. Though it's similar to the other reflection one it has a complete different mood... impressive! You could layer more and paint in more as usual but it looks good.

  6. water color gives life to the piece but i think it would be immaculate if you addedmore color
